Which Soap Star Can Boast Their Child Was On A Primetime Soap?

 Comments

It’s a tale as old as time – child follows in the footsteps of their parent and winds up joining the same jobbing profession. Sometimes they become doctors, or lawyers, or even soap opera stars.

Which Soap Star Is It?

All of these actors are either an alum of a long-ago classic – like All My Children or Guiding Light – or they currently star in, or are alums of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless.

And all of them have offspring who have followed them into the business of show – or at the very least, gotten their toes wet. But only one can boast said child has had a starring role on a primetime soap opera.

But who can that actor be? Is it Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane, AMC), Heather Tom (Katie Logan, B&B), Drake Hogestyn (John Black, DAYS), Brook Kerr (Portia Robinson, GH), or Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva Shayne Lewis, GL)?

Susan Lucci

Lucci spent 41 years playing an oft-married, grasping social climber. So it seems only fitting that her oldest child, daughter Liza Huber, spent the majority of time in the acting profession playing a grasping social climber on Passions. However, Huber was not the one cast as a lead on a primetime soap.

Heather Tom

Between 2013 and 2018, the lines between fantasy and reality must have gotten a little blurred for Tom when she began to act opposite her real-life son, Zane, who stood in for Katie’s little boy Will. But once the little tyke began kindergarten, it was bye-bye bright TV lights. So, for now, Tom’s little one hasn’t achieved primetime soap stardom.

Drake Hogestyn

Ben Hogestyn, Drake’s only son, decided to follow his dad’s lead and join the acting profession – and he even made his performing debut on episodes of DAYS. He has subsequently appeared on GH, B&B, Ghost Whisperer, and a number of sitcoms produced by Nickelodeon. But he hasn’t appeared in any nighttime serials.

Kim Zimmer

Zimmer’s third child, Jake Weary, had quite the introduction to his mother’s chosen career path. While he was still in utero, Zimmer had to enact a labor scene while being extra careful not to do anything that would send herself into ACTUAL labor!

Is it any wonder that Jake, after such auspicious beginnings, chose to become an actor? But even though he has made a name for himself in the realm of primetime, he hasn’t appeared in a program classified as a soap opera.

Brook Kerr

Kerr watched with pride as Chris, her only son with former partner Chris Warren Sr., began to slowly add to his acting resume. He had first made a name for himself with roles in feature films like Love & Basketball, Men of Honor, and American Gun before segueing to teen series such as the first two High School Musical films. In 2019, he landed his first starring role – Jason Parker on ABC’s soap-tastic drama series Grand Hotel.

So, if you guessed that the soap star in question was Brook Kerr, then you were absolutely correct!
