The field’s wide open for another soap to snatch Genie Francis, now that General Hospital has opted not to renew her contract.
Although best known for her role as Port Charles’ Laura Spencer, Francis has appeared on other daytime dramas over the years, including Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and All My Children. So the prospect of her landing at another show is certainly feasible. But which one, in what role, and how? Here are a few ideas.
A DAYS Reunion
It’s been decades since Francis played Salem reporter Diana Colville, both John (Drake Hogestyn), who was then believed to be Roman, and Victor’s (John Aniston) ex. Yes, she was once engaged to Victor.
Diana was the woman who helped John move on after Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) “death” and they shared a passionate love story, until she accidentally shot him and was so guilt-ridden that she left town in 1989.
What if she returned, took a job at The Spectator, and was revealed to have information on EJ’s whereabouts?
Surely, Marlena would give John her blessing to work with Diana to help find Sami’s (Alison Sweeney) husband and bring him home to her.

Back to Genoa City
Francis’ run as The Young and the Restless’ Genevieve, Cane’s (Daniel Goddard) mother, was short, yet anything but sweet. As Colin’s (Tristan Rogers) ex-wife, she’d been entwined with his mob life. Upon surfacing in Genoa City, she had a promising romance with Jack (Peter Bergman), until she lied to him about a business deal.
To make matters worse, she had a fling with his Victor (Eric Braeden). Genevieve could return in time to celebrate Cane and Lily’s (Christel Khalil) reconciliation and, perhaps, earn a second chance with Jack as she helps him move on after losing Dina (Marla Adams) and mend his broken ties with Ashley (Eileen Davidson).
A Bold New Adventure
While yet to appear on The Bold and the Beautiful, there are a number of characters the talented Francis could play. Just imagine her as a former flame of Eric’s (John McCook), who never truly got over him. It could spice up his happy marriage to Quinn (Rena Sofer).
Or, she could turn up as Liam’s (Scott Clifton) beloved aunt, who heads to town to comfort him during his complicated marital mess. Or, she could be Sally’s (Courtney Hope) estranged mother, who decides she wants to make amends with her daughter and help her take Spectra to the top of the fashion world.
