What Will Michael E. Knight Really Be Doing On General Hospital?

ABC soap fans have been rejoicing ever since they learned Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad, All My Children) was joining the cast of General Hospital. Now, there’s word on who the two-time Emmy-winner will be playing!

Tad The Cad?

According to EW.com, Knight will not be reprising his iconic role of Tad ‘The Cad’ Martin from AMC. Instead, say head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, Knight’s new persona is someone who is “capable of all manner of shenanigans.”

As veteran fans of AMC recall, Tad was pretty assertive, too! He romanced both Marian Colby (Jennifer Bassey) and her daughter Liza (Marcy Walker) earning him his infamous nickname.

“There are a number of people in Port Charles who are in trouble and [Knight’s] character will have an impact on how their stories are solved or further complicated,” says Van Etten.

ABC Soaps Reborn?

A while back, ABC regained the rights to the characters from both AMC and One Life to Live that had been given temporarily to Prospect Park, which produced online short-lived revivals of the two ABC soaps.

Since then, viewers have seen fan-favorite Hillary B. Smith reprise her role as OLTL’s Nora Buchanan. Actors from those shows have also created brand new characters, which is what Knight will be doing.

This isn’t to say that we won’t someday see AMC and OLTL folks in Port Charles. “We have conversations when we have these actors come back about whether it’s more useful or not to resurrect their characters,” shares Van Etten. “We’ll continue to have these as the opportunity arises.”

There’s buzz that Knight will share screen-time with former AMC co-star James Patrick Stuart (Valentin; ex-Will, AMC). Will his character help Laura bring down Valentin?

Since leaving AMC when the series ended on ABC in 2011, Knight popped up as the nefarious Dr. Simon Neville on The Young and the Restless. Watch for Knight to make his GH debut on Monday, September 30. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
