There were two surprises in Jane Elliot’s final General Hospital (GH) episode as Tracy Quartermaine.
One was Anthony Geary’s cameo Luke Spencer in the final scene set in an Amsterdam cafe. The other was, well, the unique hair style Geary was sporting.
“Yeah, that was quite a haircut,” Kin Shriner (Scotty) said at a recent fan gathering when asked about Geary’s brief return to the show.
“Tell me about that haircut,” Jackie Zeman (Bobbie) concurred. “He had this odd haircut.”
Shriner says that he saw Geary — and his new ‘do — the day he returned to the studio.
“Tony came in [to shoot his scene] and we saw him in the makeup room,” Shriner recalls. “There were ten people asking him, ‘Hey, Tony! How are you doing?'”
Shriner says he took it upon himself to question his former on-screen rival.
“I said, ‘Tony, there’s an elephant in the room we must address. Your haircut?'”
Geary’s reaction?
“He laughed,” says Shriner. The actor then said Geary told him, “‘I went through two tubes of hair gel trying to get it in a different direction. It’s a big cut over in Amsterdam!'”
Viewers were thrilled to see Geary back–even if it was brief–and even if he was sporting a such a unique style they’d never seen before. How did the show manage to get the multiple Emmy winner back for a cameo?
“I think it was Jane who twisted his arm,” Shriner theorizes. “Tony’s happily living over in Amsterdam. He’s got a great life.”
Some viewers missed Elliot’s finale due to a news pre-emption, but the episode can be viewed online at ABC.com and the network has plans to rebroadcast the show on Monday, May 29.
