General Hospital fans didn’t notice any absence, but Nicholas Alexander Chavez briefly stepped away from his role as Spencer Cassadine to film a role in the film Crushed. In the TUBI original movie, he plays Jason, a heartthrob who’s the object of a young woman’s obsessive affection.

Crushed follows Kate (Bebe Wood), a romantic high schooler who has a huge crush on classmate Jason (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). But, as she unsuccessfully tries to get together with Jason during their senior class trip, things spiral out of control. Soap Hub chatted with Chavez about Jason, Spencer, and more.

Soap Hub: When did you film Crushed?
Nicholas Alexander Chavez:
We actually filmed the movie in 12 days, and it was edited in 4 at the end of February, beginning of March. It was an amazing experience, the first time I shot something on location and the first time I was doing a feature comedy.

Soap Hub: Jason’s so different from Spencer, yes?
Nicholas Alexander Chavez:
Jason is very, very different from Spencer, but…they both have this emotional immaturity with women. It’s interesting how that same [quality] can manifest itself in different people.

Soap Hub: Does Spencer have an emotional immaturity? You add so many levels to him. Jason, to me, seems more like, ‘I don’t know, man.’
Nicholas Alexander Chavez:
Yes. Spencer is leagues and leagues ahead of Jason, of course, but Spencer is coming to realize how best to support the people in his life, who his friends are, who his foes are. He’s a quick learner. I do believe that he’s acting out of the goodness of his heart. Sometimes when you do that, there are some tactile issues that come into play…And so, I think that Spencer always wants to do the best thing and always has good intentions, but the way he goes about handling that varies…he’s always convinced that he has the best course of action. Whether it’s true or not, he’s truly convinced that this is the right thing to do.

What do you think? Post a comment!

Soap Hub: [Crushed] is a reminder that things don’t really change. When we’re young adults, we get ‘crushed,’ which is a great name for this movie because a person does end up getting crushed one way or another. Do you think this film will resonate with audiences?
Nicholas Alexander Chavez:
I think it will. Oftentimes, people aren’t who they seem…you’ve looked at [someone] from a distance, and you’ve formed an idea of who they are…it’s a dangerous trap to fall into as opposed to meeting someone, getting to know them, and evaluating their character. Bebe’s character Kate says in the movie, ‘If you’re not willing to change every aspect of yourself to be with the person you love then, is it really love?’ That’s a great line.
