Former All My Children star Cameron Mathison was very forthcoming when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer in September of 2019, and often spoke about his treatment and recovery on social media.
Cameron Mathison — A Good Son
By October of that year, the co-host of Hallmark’s Home & Family revealed that he was cancer-free and regularly points out World Cancer Day on his Instagram account and has kept fans updated on follow-up tests — all of which have been good news so far.
Sadly though, the Mathison family has not been able to get cancer out of their lives. This past June, the actor revealed that his mother, Loretta, was going through a tough cancer battle of her own.
The actor posted a family photo of himself, his brother, and mom on his Instagram page, explaining his mother has been battling brain cancer for a while.
“My mom needs some laughs these days,” he wrote at the time. “Grateful my brother and I could visit to make her smile. Her strength and courage has been so incredibly inspiring.”
He also included a powerful quote to his Instagram that day. “When you face difficult times, know that challenges are not sent to destroy you. They are sent to promote, increase, and strengthen you.”
It’s been eight months since Mathison has updated fans on Loretta’s condition, but he took to Instagram today to send his love.
“You held my hand through all my ups and downs, and now it’s my turn,” the actor wrote next to a photo of him and his mom. “Love you mom.” At the end of 2020, Cameron Mathison posted another photo of him and his mom, spending time during the holidays. “I’ll never forget this Christmas mom,” he wrote. “You have no idea how much I love you and how grateful I am for you.”
Soap Hub sends our best to the Mathison family as Loretta continues her battle.
