It was a heartbreaking moment on General Hospital, but who would have thought it would come from Valentin? He may have finally become the redeemed man we always knew he could be.
Key Takeaways
- The old Valentin was a horrible villain.
- He has been slowly redeemed through the years.
- He is sacrificing himself to save Josslyn.
- Valentin’s goodbye to Charlotte was heartbreaking.
- He has gone from zero to hero.
The Old Valentin
Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) first came to Port Charles as an evil villain and all-around terrible person. He was once considered to be the most sinister of all the Cassadines, which is saying a lot.
His introduction to GH came when he took a boat full of Port Charles residents hostage and threatened to kill Nikolas (the late Tyler Christopher) and Ava (Maura West). He shot Nikolas, who was presumed dead for years, and also shot Kevin (Jon Lindsrom), who survived. Valentin then attempted to kidnap a young Spencer (then Nicolas Bechtel), but Nina (Cynthia Watros) stopped him.
That was the worst of Valentin, but he didn’t become a great guy overnight. He softened a bit when he fell for Nina, and then even more when Charlotte (now Bluesy Burke) appeared, but he continued to hurt people. A real change came when he and Anna (Finola Hughes) fell in love, and now he seems completely redeemed.
Valentin’s Redemption
It was a sad scene back when Valentin was first sent to Steinmauer. He took the fall for the Pikeman debacle when he shouldn’t have.
With a little help, he escaped the maximum-security prison and has been hiding out at Carly’s (Laura Wright) house for months. They formed a strong bond, but she couldn’t completely trust him.
All that has changed now that he is willing to turn himself in to save Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) life. This sacrifice is something the old Valentin never would have done.
His goodbye with Carly was loving and emotional, but his last scene with Charlotte gave us all the feels. He adores his daughter, and it broke both of their hearts to leave each other. He explained to her that he had to do the right thing and not allow others to suffer for him. The conversation was brave, honest, and raw.
Valentin’s redemption arc is complete, and we can only hope that he is soon free to go back to Carly and Charlotte. Are you a fan of Valentin as a changed man?
