The Tale of Two Jasons has been going along just fine on General Hospital (GH), offering loads of surprises along the way. Of course, the biggest surprise was how fast this is moving and how obvious it is that Steve Burton is indeed Jason Morgan–or is he?
Sometimes it has felt TOO obvious, and that’s what’s bothered us over the last month. After watching Burton and Maurice Benard together again last week, we realized that he could only be Jason Morgan in our eyes and nobody else. This was working and needs to stay working.
But, one line today makes us wonder if the show is going to screw up all the magnificent stuff with this story it’s done so far. Andre said Patient 6 made it home to “the people he believes” are his family. And our hearts stopped. Don’t do it, GH. Don’t make him only THINK he’s Jason. Make him Jason.
It’s clear both Billy Miller and Burton’s characters believe they are Jason. They both have those Jason M. memories, but only one has his true personality.
The last thing we want is to learn Andre and Dr. Klein were in on some brainwashing/memory experiment that went awry.
But, if they were, why can’t Billy Miller’s character be the experiment? It would certainly make more sense in the end and not become a letdown for the longtime fans who are in store for more reunions with Burton’s Jason and others he loved.
Those reunions feel real to us—just as they feel real to Carly and Sonny (and Sam?).
The plot points in this story have come together well, pulling in character after character, including Ava, Griffin, and now Valentin (OF COURSE, Valentin, who didn’t see THAT coming?). But the character moments are what truly carry this story, so please GH, don’t screw it up.
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
