Fans are thrilled that General Hospital has come back with new episodes that are really moving the Port Charles stories forward. There’s so much to talk about but here are the top seven items kicking things into high gear and exciting the audience.
7. Inserting A True Firecracker
Kim Delaney walked onscreen to meet Lulu (Emme Rylan) and immediately made Jackie Templeton not just a force but completely owned the role from original player Demi Moore. If there was any doubt this was an older version of the young spitfire we knew, her punching former flame Robert (Tristan Rogers) sealed the deal. Fans can’t wait to see things with Finn (Michael Easton) explode.
6. Bad To the Bone: Cyrus
Watching Cyrus (Jeff Kober) maneuver our Port Charles favorites around his mental chessboard has been intriguing. Sonny (Maurice Benard) finally has a worthy adversary after all these years. Bonus points for trying to involve the Jerome siblings and him handling the antagonism from Trina (Sydney Mikayla) perfectly — plus she’s organizing the Scooby gang (those fantastic teens) to take him down. Winning!
5. Doubling Down On Dante
Dante’s (Dominic Zamprogna) return brings Liesl (Kathleen Gati) back to the canvas, finally gives fans hope for Peter (Wes Ramsey) to get what’s coming, lights a fire under the pairing of Lulu and Dustin (Mark Lawson), and will help heal his dad’s broken heart. His reunion with his mother will surely require an entire box of tissues.
4. More Heart, Less Shoot ‘Em Up
While we applaud Cyrus in the mix, we prefer mental maneuvering to shootouts. Sonny’s saga with his father tore at our heartstrings and it struck all the right chords. It was a refreshing story for the Corinthos Clan and a departure from the usual guns blaring when they need a way to make them interesting. Hopefully, this has been instructive that emotions can be riveting too.
3. Outsmarting, Not Out-dumbing
Friz (Franco and Liz) outsmarting Nava (Nikolas and Ava) has been a delight, if not oddly-paced story. This could be something to increase the ratings if the show would fully commit to featuring the fab four. Franco (Roger Howarth) and Liz (Rebecca Herbst) have a huge fanbase and should be featured far more. And watching characters outsmart, rather than out dumb each other, is always a winning choice.
2. Deliverance: Using Their Best Assets
While having Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) fall off the wagon yet again may seem unnecessary, there was no other way to have her willingly cheat with Ned (Wally Kurth) on pal Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), and seeing these three get a story is pretty much worth anything and everything to make it happen. They always deliver — and we’ve even gotten some Monica (Leslie Charleson) to boot! Bonus!
1. Having General Hospital Front and Center
It has been decades since the hospital (you know–that thing in the title) has been the setting of intrigue and now thanks to Cyrus’s takeover and a fabulously-returned Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) installed as its Chief of Staff — with drugs serving as a catalyst (we ARE in an opioid epidemic), the show almost feels like its old pre-mob self.
OK, sure, it’s still a mob-centered story, but they’re actually at GH! Yay! General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
