Being the child of General Hospital mob boss Sonny Corinthos should mean lots of airtime and a consistent storyline.
Think Michael (Chad Duell) and the late Morgan (Bryan Craig). That is unless that child is his eldest daughter, Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth). For some reason, she’s routinely left out of key moments and plots. The character gets no respect, and it’s so wrong.
Upon aging the character to a teenager, Kristina was initially a big part of the Port Charles drama. She developed a major crush on Luke’s (Tony Geary) son, Ethan (Nathan Parsons), and endured an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Keifer (Christian Alexander). She later faked a romance with Johnny (Brandon Barash) and entered into an ill-fated marriage with Trey, before being written off the show.
Returning two years later, she had an affair with her female college professor, Parker (Ashley Jones), before getting involved in the Dawn of Day cult. Since that story wrapped, Ainsworth’s been delegated a recurring player, and, once again, has been conspicuously missing in action.
The character was MIA when her grandfather Mike (Max Gail) was on his deathbed. While everyone else got scripted goodbyes with him, including Josslyn (Eden McCoy), who wasn’t even his blood relative, Krissy was nowhere to be found. She did make an appearance at Mike’s funeral last October but then slipped back off the canvas into oblivion.
When her sisters Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Molly (Haley Pullos) staged an intervention for their alcoholic mother Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), Kristina was nowhere in sight. Worse yet, since Sonny disappeared in December and was later presumed dead, viewers haven’t seen hide nor hair of her. No mention; no visit to Carly (Laura Wright) or her little sisters, Avery and Donna; no grieving moment with her brothers, Michael (Chad Duell) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna).
Word is Kristina is slated to make another appearance later this month – to attend Sonny’s funeral, no doubt. Let’s just hope it’s not another one-and-done cameo. Sonny and Alexis’s daughter deserves more respect and airtime, and so does Lexi Ainsworth. The actress always delivers no matter how big or small the material, and she warrants being part of a front-burner storyline. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
