Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson is a daytime devotee and now she’s getting another opportunity to appear on General Hospital. The actress will be joining the show for a fan favorite event!
Wilson is swapping out the hospital scrubs she wears as Dr. Miranda Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy for a lovely gown! She’ll be playing Sydney Val Jean, an East Coast fashion editor, Crimson Magazine, according to People for the annual Nurses Ball!
The actress will join Nina (Michelle Stafford), Crimson’s editor-in-chief, but two won’t be in unison! There will be a “red carpet rivalry” between the two at the annual HIV/AIDS and talent show fundraiser.
This is the Nurses’ Ball 25th anniversary, the gala beginning in 1994, and hosted by Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring). The talent show within the show took many years off but was revived a while back.
“This year will be particularly special and personal,” Frank Valentini, executive producer, said in a statement. “We were able to incorporate original music and performances from a few of our actors, including James Patrick Stuart [Valentin Cassadine]. There’s a lot of heart in these amazing performances. You won’t want to miss them!”
Wilson’s episode of General Hospital will air Friday, May 17 — one day after the season 15 finale of Grey’s Anatomy — on ABC.
Previously, Wilson appeared on the show as Dr. Linda Massey; and in 2014, the Grey’s star played Tina Estrada, a patient.
There’s a special meaning behind her character name, this time. “Sidney Val Jean” is the name of the father of former GH writer Michele Val Jean, now a writer at The Bold and the Beautiful.
Val Jean posted on Facebook: “My soap alma mater is shouting me out for this year’s Nurses’ Ball. My dad’s name was Sidney so he gets a shout out too. #fun #lovemyghfamily.”
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
