Sam’s broken things off with Jason. Sonny’s gone missing and could quite soon be presumed dead. The stars have imperfectly aligned for General Hospital to explore a risky couple: Carly and Jason.
General Hospital – Lovers Past
Yes, the pair were lovers before, but that was more than two decades ago. Over the years, Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason’s (Steve Burton) relationship has morphed into one of the strongest and best friendships in Port Charles. They’ve been there for each other through thick and thin, and would literally risk their lives for one another.
Alone at Last
However, take Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) out of the equation, and things could change between them. Jason’s been in a daze since Sam gave him the boot. Sonny’s disappearance has only added to the upheaval in his life, leaving Carly as his one constant.
Meanwhile, Carly’s world had been absolutely perfect. That is until Jason broke the news that Sonny fell off a bridge and into the river during a final confrontation with Julian (William deVry). Suddenly, life as she happily knew it was derailed.

Lean On Me
It seems only natural that the pair would lean on each other during this time of crisis for comfort and support. The question is whether or not it might lead to something more. Would the show’s writers actually consider scripting a Jason and Carly affair or even a one-night stand?
Risky Business
Opening the door to either of the above would be a risky move on so many levels. Number one, Jason’s been absolutely steadfast in his commitment to Sam since he returned from the dead in 2017. Straying is so out of character for him, no matter where Sam stands on their relationship. Sleeping with Carly would also be a huge betrayal to his friendship with Sonny, who trusts Jason like a brother.
A Carly/Jason affair would also destroy the incredible bond that the duo has built over the years. Considering Carly will always need Jason as a friend more than she does a lover, it’s not worth the gamble. And considering Sonny’s wrath whenever Carly’s slept with another man in the past, it’s best not to open that Pandora’s box again — particularly since he’s bound to resurface, eventually.
In the interim, pairing up Jason and Carly against Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) during Sonny’s absence has been an unexpected and intriguing move. They’re the perfect one-two punch the mobster never saw coming. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
