Ned and Alexis have had a connection on General Hospital since the 1990s. In fact, he even tried posing as Kristina’s father when she was an infant when Alexis wanted to keep her away from Sonny, who she deemed dangerous. (He’s a mobster after all.) While they never managed to make things work, they certainly managed to make their recent drunken one night together work — as delightful soap opera.
The morning after both parties wanted to pretend the night never happened and when Ned (Wally Kurth) learned Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) did not cheat on her with Robert (Tristan Rogers) after all, he REALLY wanted to forget it. Of course, he went and unburdened himself on Monica (Leslie Charleson), who in turn told Tracy (Jane Elliot) all about what her son did. A horrified Tracy just wanted to do what any mother does — protect her child from heartache, but she’s Tracy, so this wasn’t going to ever go smooth.
Tracy figured she could keep Alexis quiet about the affair if she just got her into rehab for a while, so why not set her up as a drunk driver who blacked out so she’d get some help. Since Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was pretty sure she didn’t drive drunk, she also didn’t get help and kept right on drinking and reading the citizens of Port Charles for filth — minus a driver’s license.
Olivia remained in the dark, Ned remained a good friend to Alexis, and Tracy remained in town telling lies, but those lies all came out in a spectacular way this week right in the Quartermaine living room. Olivia and Sam (Kelly Monaco) had managed to figure out that Tracy set Alexis up, but Tracy’s lies when Olivia confronted her opened Liv’s eyes and she finally realized her husband did a bad, bad thing.
Tracy and Sam remained socially-distanced in the room as Olivia got her husband to finally tell the truth as Tracy kept on lying and Sam was enraged that Ned drank with her alcoholic mother and allowed all this to happen. When Alexis showed up with Tracy’s good friend, Finn (Michael Easton), in tow, the reveal was everything we thought it would be and then some. The only person missing was Monica. After all, this is HER house and this whole scene needed her acerbic commentary.
To think, the backdrop of all of this was a celebration of Ned finally adopting Olivia’s son, Leo. It’s looking less likely Leo will get Ned as his official dad — at least for now. May the fallout of this intelligent, emotional, chaotic, and thoroughly entertaining story keep reverberating for a long time to come. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
