The reading of a Christmas prayer to children on (and at) General Hospital isn’t the only holiday tradition associated with the ABC soap opera. For the past few years, actors from the show have supported the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots, a program that helps puts toys into the hands of needy children.
Earlier this month, several actors from the long-running serial visited a Disney Store to take part in the World’s Ultimate Toy Drive and bring awareness of the program. The ABC news station in New York, ABC7, ran a report on the event.
Donnell Turner (Curtis) prepared for the event to maximize his charitable efforts. “I came early and did some pre-scouting so I know what the hot items are right now,” the actor said. “Let’s just say one of them has to do with Minnie Mouse and a baking set.”
“I know how much Disney means to me personally, so I know how much it means to a lot of kids,” said Katelyn MacMullen (Willow). “To get toys that are from Disney is a really big deal.”
“Each of these actually reminds me of toys I used to have when I was a kid,” said Sydney Mikayla (Trina).
“You’re not just making a difference in a child’s life for a day,” William deVry (Julian) offered. “You could potentially make a difference…for the rest of [their] life.”
This year’s Christmas is upon us, but there’s a link to the Toys for Tots organization that you can link to and bookmark for future holiday seasons. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
