When news began leaking that Sabrina would become Paul’s next victim on General Hospital, many wondered if the actress had chosen to take some time off work after giving birth to her second child in January. Teresa Castillo has two children under two years apart and had already taken a longer-than-usual maternity leave earlier this year.
However, according to the September 26 issue of Soap Opera Digest, GH decided to write Castillo and Sabrina off by choice–not because the actress wanted to leave on her own.
Castillo told Digest she got the news nearly three months ago, but kept it a secret out of respect for the show and the amount of notice it gave her.
“[Executive Producer] Frank [Valentini] called me into his office,” Castillo told Digest. “It was at the end of the day and he said, ‘They’ve decided to kill Sabrina.’ It was definitely bittersweet because I love the character, I love the job, I love the people and all of that. But, you learn not to get too attached to jobs as an actor.”
She admits that the moment was surprising, but in the end losing a job in the entertainment business doesn’t come as a major shock.
It was definitely shocking for fans who were thrilled to have the character and actress back onscreen this past May. Many looked forward to seeing the relationship between Sabrina and Michael (Chad Duell) develop, only to have the entire romance cut short by murder.
Castillo debuted as mousy nurse Sabrina Santiago in 2012 and told Digest she thought four years was a perfect length of time at this job. She’s currently auditioning for new roles and Soap Hub hopes to see her again on our TV screens soon.
