There’s a point when an amnesia story has worn out its welcome–especially when the character who can’t remember the last 20 years of his life already can’t remember the first 20 years of his life. To us, that’s amnesia overkill and “General Hospital” finally learned its lesson.
Poor Jason (Billy Miller) walked around remembering barely anything of his four decades on Earth for nearly two years. But, oddly enough, GH Head Writers Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman still insist the character could have gone on without memories indefinitely. Lucky for us, they listened to fans. When Soap Hub asked if you thought Jason would be fine with no memories at all, you gave is a resounding answer–NO!
Out of about 3,000 votes, 81% of you needed Jason to remember as much as Sam (Kelly Monaco), Carly (Laura Wright), and Sonny (Maurice Benard). Yes, he had Jason Morgan traits, but without Jason Morgan memories, you never felt Jason had truly come home. Memories form a person in every way. They’re not just around for story convenience. Instead, they fully flesh out a character.
A much smaller 16% of you think Jason didn’t need his memories. You agree with the writers and enjoy the new person he had become. However, you acknowledge he can blend the new Jason with the old and come up with Jason 3.0
The final 3% don’t even care. You were over Jason’s amnesia in 1996 and didn’t need a third round of it from 2014-2016. You became sick of “Will he or won’t he (remember)?” before this story even got off the ground and focused on other fan faves instead.
