As if learning Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso were bringing Bo and Hope to the latest installment of streamer Peacock’s Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem wasn’t exciting enough, now Peacock confirms that General Hospital and The Young and the Restless alum Steve Burton is returning to his Salem roots too. He tells Soap Hub how it feels to be back.

Steve Burton Goes Beyond Salem

“Joining Beyond Salem — the limited digital series for the peacock — has been a lot of fun and very nostalgic,” Burton tells Soap Hub. “I started my daytime career on Days of our Lives in 1988 while on a hiatus from the sitcom I was doing called Out of This World when I was a senior in high school. It’s been really cool to reprise the character I started with, Harris Michaels.

“Daytime is a small world, so I knew a lot of the cast and crew already and met some new peeps,” he continued. “Everyone has been so welcoming, and I am always grateful for new opportunities. Looking forward to the finished product. Stay tuned.”

While Steve Burton is revisiting his first soap character, it’s his role as Jason Morgan on GH (on and off between 1992-2021) for which he’s most known. He also played the son of Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) on The Young and the Restless from 2013-2017 in between Port Charles appearances.

The actor left GH late last year, with the character of Jason having supposedly perished during a cave collapse. While he has been keeping busy touring the country with former GH castmate Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli) in their Stone Cold and the Jackel comedy show, this is his first return to a soap.

In addition to the previously mentioned Reckell and Alfonso, also appearing on the five-episode miniseries are Deidre Hall as Marlena Evans, Drake Hogestyn as John Black, Stephen Nichols as Steve Johnson, Mary Beth Evans as Kayla Johnson, Lucas Adams as Tripp Johnson, Victoria Konefal as Ciara Brady Weston, Robert Scott Wilson as Ben Weston, Remington Hoffman as Li Shin, and Camila Banus as Gabi Hernandez DiMera.

Peacock earlier described the follow-up to the initial popular series this way: “In an epic, action-packed tale that spans the entire globe, from Monte Carlo to Hong Kong, beloved characters from Days of our Lives once again go ‘Beyond Salem!’ as they trade the comforts of home for an adventure of a lifetime! Over the course of five thrilling episodes, heartwarming family reunions take a dangerous turn as a mysterious adversary wreaks havoc on their lives.”

Steve Burton and the rest of the cast have been currently shooting the project. You can look for Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem to stream from July 11-July 15.
