We could list all the crimes that Sonny has committed on General Hospital and gotten away with. But the Internet only has so much bandwidth, and you don’t have that kind of time.
So, we’ll summarize: Sonny (Maurice Benard) has killed people, he’s blackmailed people, he’s threatened people, he’s kidnapped, he’s extorted, and he’s kidnapped and extorted via meat hook.
He also runs some sort of vague coffee importing business, where we can assume he underpays Juan Valdez and exploits dirt-poor growers while mixing his beans with sawdust.
And yet, while characters from Blackie (John Stamos) to Nelle (Chloe Lanier) languish behind bars, Sonny is walking around, free as a mumbly bird. Should he continue to remain above the law? Almost 11,000 fans played judge and jury.
Keep your hands off our Sonny, 81% of you broadcasted loud and clear. How dare you even consider laying down the law to a man so good, so noble, so self-sacrificing?
All Sonny does is give and give and give. Who else would have given Jason (Steve Burton) a home right after his accident, when his family was so cruelly inviting him to recuperate in the warmth and comfort of the Quartermaine mansion?
Who else would have adopted his stepson, Michael (Chad Duell) in spite of Michael already having a father who wanted to be involved in his life?
And what other man would have accepted a daughter whose mother was Ava (Maura West), a well-known mobster who would have put Avery in danger?
Considering all off Sonny’s contributions to the community, he should be given a pass on any minor traffic tickets and the like. It’s only fair.
Minority Report
Are you kidding us, 19% ask. The man is a cri-mi-nal. He should go to J-A-I-L. Are we speaking Babylonian? How is this not already a thing?
