General Hospital spoilers for the Thursday, May 23 episode focus on characters stonewalling, offering sympathy, and making a big move.

Whiskey and Sympathy?

The so-called friendship between Ava (Maura West) and Sonny (Maurice Benard) is shaky at best. She’s not content with sharing the guy; she wants to be his one-and-only trusted confidante. However, their connection is thin and can be severed at any moment. Tops on the list of what can shatter their bond? She is hiding the truth from him. And when he finds out, he’ll surely go ballistic.

But, for now, Ava plays up her sympathy to Sonny. After all, he sullied the end of Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) and Chase’s (Josh Swickard) wedding reception by choosing violence. He probably feels he’s lost Kristina’s (Kate Mansi) love and loyalty. In addition, he just had an extended conversation with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) that got pretty painful. He must feel more isolated than ever. This is Ava’s chance to stitch up their frayed friendship. Sure, she can show him sympathy. What she really needs to do is tell him exactly why he’s acting erratically and brutally. She needs to fess up what she knows about his tampered meds. Do it, Ava! Before it blows up in your face.

Law and Disorder

The Disorder: When Michael (Chad Duell) called Carly (Laura Wright) after Sonny assaulted Dex (Evan Hofer), she tried to calm her ex-husband down. Clearly, her work isn’t done. Little does Sonny know that the people he claims don’t care for him are bending over backward to do damage control. This must be the reason why Carly is even attempting to stonewall Anna (Finola Hughes). Everybody knows an arrest is in Sonny’s future. And Anna is going to relish being the one to do it. After all, it’s her recruit Sonny blasted at the reception. So, will Carly’s stonewalling prove successful?

The Law: Hallelujah! Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) finally has her day in court. The ex-lawyer wants to eliminate the “ex” part of the equation. She and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) are ready to battle for her legal future. At the end of this hearing, will she be able to quit The Invader and regain her law license? Or will this prove to be a fruitless exercise that leads to disappointment and depression? (GH’s Jophielle Love and Constance Towers celebrated birthdays this week)

Sharing Fears and Fearless Move

Kristina (Kate Mansi) continues to process what she witnessed at the reception. Seeing her dad’s brutal attack and threats has sent her to a contemplative place. Thankfully, she decides to share her fears.

Remember Gio (Giovanni Mazza) from the wedding? The talented violinist and Cerullo family member? Well, looks like he’s making a move. Does this mean Gio’s jumping on the Bensonhurst to Port Charles express train? Is there a Port Charles Orchestra we don’t know about? Other questions: Where will he live, and who will he interact with when he gets to town?
