General Hospital spoilers for January 4, 2024, involve a ton of emotional turmoil for the Port Charles citizens as Carly lashes out, Sonny faces Cyrus, and Laura draws a conclusion about Esme. Do not miss this episode.
Since Esme’s (Avery Kristen Pohl, who talks about Esme’s amnesia here) memories returned, she’s been busy. She visited her dad’s grave and reconnected with Heather Webber (Alley Mills), her bio mom. Her mom, of course, advised her to take the shady path and make sure to keep her current restored status from everyone. It would do no good for her to tell everyone her memories are back because she could end up in prison.
So is Esme about to undergo a huge test? Because teasers suggest Laura (Genie Francis) is going to make a realization about her former house guest. Is the mayor on to Esme? If she is, will she let her know that she knows her memories have returned? More importantly, will this finally end Laura’s kinder, gentler approach with Esme? Hopefully, the answer is yes.
Now that the town’s biggest secret is out (hallelujah!), it’s no surprise that Sonny (Maurice Benard) is headed for a face-to-face with everyone’s favorite fake priest, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). The ex-con pretended to hear Nina’s (Cynthia Watros) confession and then pressured her to reveal her secret to Sonny. Don’t think for a minute this was out of the “goodness” of his heart. He knew this revelation would cause maximum damage and anguish to his enemy. Who will be standing once the dust settles on what’s sure to be a heated interaction?

Meanwhile, Carly (Laura Wright) is understandably feeling anger and pain of her own. But when she lashes out, will it stem from the grief of losing Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman)? Or, has she found out about Nina’s dastardly deed? What’s more, who will be on the receiving end of said lashing out?
Portia (Brook Kerr) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) must be grateful 2023 is a thing of the past. Their rough and tumble year included Trina (Tabyana Ali) finding out Curtis was her bio dad and Curtis getting shot and paralyzed. Plus, there’s the fact Portia had to contend with her daughter being in love with Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). Well, it’s 2024, and the Ashfords are kicking off the year in style when Curtis has a romantic surprise for his wife.
Finally, Joss (Courtney Fulk) and Dex (Evan Hofer) don’t have time for a romantic moment. Guess who’s in a world of drama again? The lovebirds get to find out the answer to that question when they discover Joss’s study buddy Adam (Joshua Benard) drunk as a skunk. What has this hot mess of a college student turning to alcohol to deal with his problems? Is this still about his dad and his unrealistic expectations for his kid?
