GH spoilers have long gotten us ready for this particular drill: Sonny gets arrested, Port Charles weeps, Carly takes over his mob duties, Sonny makes sad eyes and mentions his poor, underprivileged childhood, Diane makes a grandstanding speech, Sonny proves how he’s the most moral person in town, Sonny gets out of prison, Sonny retakes control of his not-at-all-illegal-it’s-just-coffee operation. But what if, this time, the scenario plays out a little differently?
All the other times Sonny (Maurice Benard) has been in prison — or presumed dead — it’s been Jason (Steve Burton) or Carly (Laura Wright) who stepped in to run things until he returned — from prison. Or the dead. But now, Jason is presumed dead himself. And Carly is no longer Mrs. Corinthos. Sonny’s fiancée, Nina (Cynthia Watros), has spent the past few weeks being lectured about how she’s not up to the challenges of being a mob moll. So she won’t be filling in. And his oldest son is, much to Sonny’s disappointment, a cop. So it won’t be Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), either.
Which brings us to Sonny’s oldest daughter, Kristina (Kate Mansi). Sure, she’s spent her life as a screwup, falling into terrible romantic relationships with both men and women and getting caught up in cults so obvious a newborn Wiley could have told her it was a scam.
But she’s supposedly got her life together now. She’s opening up a safe haven for queer youth, dealing with permits and contractors, like a real grown-up. What if newly grown-up Kristina picks up the slack for Sonny while he’s in prison – and she decides she kind of likes it?
It doesn’t even matter if this is another of Sonny’s weekends in jail, and he’s out before the first official day of Autumn. Even a few days of being the big boss, where people have to respect you without you needing to do anything to earn it, could go to Kristina’s head. She could decide she likes being a Mafia Princess. No. She likes being a Mafia Queen. And she’s not giving it up. Not even when dear old dad comes marching home. It’s a turf war, now! Think this wild speculation could really come true?
