While General Hospital spoilers show the baby switch storyline having its fans, it has continued to drag on. First, with the big reveal that Carly inexplicably dominated, then with the custody battle that got paused by COVID-19, it’s no spoiler at this point to say that most viewers are at the “End, end, please end, why won’t you end?” part of the watching cycle.
You no longer care if Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), or Nelle (Chloe Lanier) are awarded the boy, you just want to be put out of your misery.
All soaps are of the agreement that children are interchangeable, and that bonding isn’t a thing. Kids can be passed around, willy-nilly, with no psychological trauma. See: Days Of Our Lives and Baby Mickey getting a whole new name and a whole new mommy in the space of 10 minutes.
That’s why Wiley could be handed over to total strangers who pronounce themselves to be Mommy and Daddy, and he’ll be chill with it. When, in real life, we know the only parents Wiley wants right now are Lucas (Ryan Carnes) and Brad (Parry Shen).
Brad knew about the baby switch from the start. But Lucas was in the dark. Lucas was completely innocent. Not only does Lucas now have to suffer losing his son, but he also has to know that his son is suffering from losing him. What good dad would put up with that?
Lucas was illegally adopted as a baby by Bobbie (Jaclyn Zeman), returned to his biological mother, Cheryl, then, when Cheryl died, given back to Bobbie. What if Lucas has a nervous breakdown and decides to do the same for Wiley?
What if Lucas grabs his little boy and runs far, far away? (He’s rarely onscreen, anyway.) Sure, much of Port Charles will froth at the mouth. But the story will be over! No, seriously, what it will really do is add a whole new element to the story that nobody ever expected. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
