Supercouple Memories: General Hospital’s Ned and Lois

The odd coupling of Ned and Lois seemed an unlikely General Hospital pairing, but their love for one another was true blue and a hit with fans back in the 1990s.

Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) first appeared in Port Charles as a band manager who was smitten with singer Eddie Maine. From the first time she saw him perform, she knew he was different. What she didn’t know was that “Eddie” was actually Ned Ashton (Wally Kurth), a wealthy member of the Quartermaine clan.

Undercover Ned
Lois believed that Eddie was a singer by night and a traveling pharmaceutical salesman by day. Ned never let on that she was wrong, and allowed their relationship to grow without any pretense.

Eventually, the two fell in love and married. After their wedding, Ned and Lois moved to Ned’s home town of Port Charles, New York.

After settling in to life in Port Charles, Lois found an old friend in Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Through Sonny, she quickly became close friends with Sonny’s girlfriend, Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil).

Together, the two opened their own recording company, called L&B Records. She was still in the dark about Ned’s true identity at this time. She also had no idea Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans) was blackmailing the Quartermaines and forced Ned to marry her.

The Truth Is Out
Married to two women, Ned refused to tell Lois about his deception because he truly cared for her and did not want to hurt her. While watching television, Lois soon discovered that Eddie Maine was, in fact, the wealthy Ned Ashton, who had just celebrated his marriage to Katherine.

Lois confronted Ned at Katherine’s birthday party, where she popped out of Katherine’s cake, and said: “Happy Birthday to Mrs. Ned Ashton, from the other Mrs. Ned Ashton!”

The once-scheming Ned had found true love in Lois and didn’t want to let her go, so he pursued her and she eventually gave him another chance. This time, they married in a lavish wedding in Brooklyn, NY Lois’s hometown. Lois also wanted to distance herself and Ned from the diabolical dealings of the Quartermaines and Ned’s mother, Tracy.

It Could Never Last
Tracy’s dirty deals put the family’s company, ELQ, in financial jeopardy. Ned was forced to clean up the mess. After many hours alone, Lois asked Ned to choose between her and his family. He chose the latter and she later skipped town, returning to Brooklyn, where she later gave birth to their daughter named Brook Lynn.

Lois returned to Port Charles years later when her daughter was a teenage runaway, hoping Ned could help find her. She began dating mobster, Lorenzo Alcazar, but their affair came to a screeching halt when his feelings for his ex-wife, Carly, returned. Ned, Lois, and Brook Lynn then all left Port Charles together and moved to Manhattan to continue working in the music industry. Lois later moved to London, England and continues to work as a band manager without Ned.
