As previously reported, Cameron Mathison, beloved as Ryan Lavery on All My Children, underwent surgery this week for kidney cancer. Now, the host of Hallmark’s Home & Family has shared a post-op update to let us how the procedure went.
Great news! “The tumor is gone and I even got to keep 80% of my kidney,” Mathison shared on Instagram.
As you can see in the photo below, the actor is shown in his hospital bed, smiling, surrounded by his two children, daughter, Leila, and son, Lucas. (We’re guessing Mathison’s wife, Vanessa, is the one taking the photograph!)
“Feeling loved and supported by my family and friends, including each and every one of you. I’ve been very overwhelmed and so grateful for all of the supportive comments and prayers. We are all optimistic. Keep you updated. So grateful for all of you.”
Mathison’s pals from daytime weighed in with comments expressing their gratitude over the actor’s announcement, adding in additional words of support.
“Best news!!!!” posted Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days of Our Lives), Mathison’s co-star on Hallmark’s Murder, She Baked movies.
“So much love and prayers to you and your family!! You got this man,” wrote Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe, The Young and the Restless; ex-Maggie/ex-Frankie, All My Children).
Jacob Young (ex-JR, AMC; ex-Rick, The Bold and the Beautiful) wrote a note of encouragement on Mathison’s post as did his mother, Rhonda Wilson, in her own post. “I know exactly what you have gone thru,” Wilson posted. “I had the same surgery on my right kidney in 2005. I have had no problems since. You will be back doing all the things you love to do soon!!! Sending you lots love from our family.”
Soap Hub joins Wilson and Mathison’s family, friends, colleagues, and fans in wishing the actor a swift recovery. Home & Family airs weekdays on the Hallmark Channel.
