Soap Star News: Cady McClain Flashes Back To Her Childhood

Cady McClain, who rose to daytime fame in her late teens as Dixie Cooney on All My Children, is not just a soap veteran — she’s a show biz veteran too.

McClain has been working in Hollywood and New York as an actress from a very young age and starred in some memorable films as a child, including Pennies From Heaven and My Favorite Year.

She recently remembered her time on the Pennies From Heaven set, working with Broadway legend, Bernadette Peters. A photo from the movie shows a very young McClain dancing away in a children’s chorus.

“Being a child actress had its great moments and here’s one of them: working with the great Bernadette Peters as she sang ‘Love is Good for Anything That Ails You’ while a group of kids tap danced on little white pianos, played (pretend) instruments, and acted as students in her classroom,” the actress posted.

“Pennies from Heaven was the last movie musical to be shot at MGM. Directed by Herb Ross and choreographed by Danny Daniels the production was top quality all the way. It also starred Steve Martin (who dropped by to say hi… and yes, he was super nice) and Christopher Walken, who was what they used to call a “hoofer” (Tap dancer) on Broadway when he was young and also gave a historic and epic performance in this film.

“I am so grateful to have been a part of this film and to have these memories. It was filmmaking perfection.”

McClain, of course, went on to play both Dixie on AMC and Rosanna Cabot on As The World Turns. Her last soap was The Young and the Restless where she played Kelly Andrews from 2014-2015. She’s married to soap vet Jon Lindstrom, who doubles as Ryan and Kevin on General Hospital.

Soap Hub would love to see her pop up one day with Dixie visiting Port Charles and seeing a very familiar face in Martin Grey. Martin, as we know, is played by Michael E. Knight who stole Dixie’s heart as Tad Martin in Pine Valley and kept it for more than two decades.
