When All My Children fave John Callahan passed away in March of 2020, his ex-wife, veteran soap star Eva LaRue, talked about how much of a baseball fan he was, and how the couple would go to New York Yankees games during their time as supercouple Maria and Edmund on AMC.
Eva LaRue Pays Tribute
This past weekend, LaRue and the couple’s daughter, Kaya, attended a Yankees game to pay tribute to Callahan, who considered himself one of the team’s biggest fans.
“Perfect day! Celebrating John in the way he would LOVE!” the actress wrote, adding a collection of images from the day, with the two in Yankees garb.
Kaya even spread some of his ashes on the mound of the original House that Ruth built. “Left a tiny bit of him on the same Yankee mound he pitched from on the ‘Hollywood Allstar’ team in a charity game at the Original Yankee Stadium in 1994 (now a park with the original diamond intact!),” LaRue wrote.

One of the photos showed a tribute the Yankees displayed on the scoreboard, with the words, “The New York Yankees remember John Callahan.”
“Then memorialized him at the New Stadium while watching the Yankees win 8-0,” LaRue said. “I know to my core he is beaming from above!!” She added a hashtag with the words, “pitch perfect.”
Eva LaRue also included a photo of a young Callahan on the field of the old Yankee Stadium in his Hollywood All-Stars uniform. “Made me promise I would tell our grandkids that he played at Yankee Stadium,” she posted. “Do you one better John, now you’re the legend that lives on there.”
Many of Callahan and LaRue’s AMC friends weighed in on how much they loved this idea. Alicia Minshew (Kendall) wrote, “Eva!! This makes me sooo weepy! How beautiful 🙏🙏🙏. This is just perfect. He is definitely beaming from above like you said. Sending you all so much love.” Meanwhile, Kelly Ripa (Hayley), replied, “Wow, you did it!!” knowing that Callahan would have been so happy.
