Spencer Cassadine knows he’s been busted for his role in Ava’s stalking on General Hospital but he’s not about to go off to prison easily. For his role as a determined, calculating, deceptive, yet likable young man, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for GH on Spencer’s portrayer, Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez – Performer of the Week

Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s Spencer was beginning to lose faith in the legal system when his public defender got his case mixed up with another defendant. Was he going to fall through the cracks and be sent to the big house for stalking Ava?

Spencer thought his luck with had changed when his uncle Sonny (Maurice Benard) showed up at the courthouse. The Cassadine heir was facing some serious charges in light of his actions against Ava (Maura West) but Sonny wasn’t about to let his nephew off the hook.

Spencer could tell by his mobster uncle’s body language that he wasn’t there to help him. Sonny laid down the law, reminding his nephew that children and family are off limits – and Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola), whom Spencer endangered, is both!

Unlike Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl), who tried to con Sonny, Spencer went the heartfelt approach assuring him that he’s no longer the same person who did the horrible deeds to Ava and Avery. Spencer hadn’t lost his edge when being grilled by Sonny. He asked the young man how he thinks he’s been able to stay out of jail all this time? “Diane Miller,” quipped Spencer, referring to Sonny’s ace attorney played by Carolyn Hennesy, which didn’t ingratiate himself to his uncle.

Spencer confessed to Sonny that he felt stupid and hurt – believing wrongly that his father Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) would choose him over Ava. The young man was dejected that Sonny wasn’t going to bail him out, but he didn’t have long to worry about that as his father showed up next.

Rather than seeing Nikolas’ presence as a potential lifeline, Spencer, irate that Ava had her eyes on his trust fund, went on the offensive. “Open your eyes father,” Nicholas Alexander Chavez’s Spencer shouted, “See you wife for who she really is!”

Spencer has a lot happening at once. He’s facing having a criminal record and looking at jail time. Chavez plays his character analyzing all the options in front of him as he also keeps in mind the motivations of the people in his life – from Esme to his father to stepmother dearest.

Spencer politely thanked Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) for stepping up and posting bail – Chavez never fails to remember his character’s regal background. He also plays Spencer as calculating, saying that he knows that there’s a catch to Kevin and Laura’s (Genie Francis) support. Indeed. Kevin informed his step-grandson that he’s going to have to get a job. A job? Clearly, the show is about to throw Spencer a challenge. We can’t wait to see what Nicholas Alexander Chavez does with the assignment as Spencer looks for gainful employment.
