This weekend marks the initial Soap Hub Performer of the Week, a new ongoing series that pays tribute to a show’s outstanding actor. For General Hospital, our choice is soap vet Lisa LoCicero, who gave us all a five-hankie moment when she saw her beloved son, Dante, standing at her front door.
Olivia had just returned from a trip to see Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) in the WSB Geneva facility heartbroken. She cried at Dante’s door and pleaded with him to see her but he refused. However, her words got to him and Dante finally decided to return to Port Charles and never leave his family again.
After a tiring day saying goodbye to Mike Corbin (Max Gail), Dante’s grandfather, Olivia was just settling in for the night when there was a knock at the door. She didn’t want to answer and did so in frustration, but when she opened it and Dante was standing there with a shy smile, the look on Olivia’s face brought tears to our eyes immediately as LoCicero brought out that Brooklyn mother we love so much. (Soap Hub gets it, as this writer is a Brooklyn mother, too.)
LoCicero delivered Olivia’s shock with warmth, humor, and motherly love — the best kind of motherly love — the blunt kind. We laughed when Olivia told Dante just no on the beard.
If Soap Hub had begun selecting Performers of the Week last month, Lisa LoCicero would have been our choice from those moments outside Dante’s door, so this column is calling out both of those incredible performances that made every mother watching think of our own children. We can’t even imagine what’s coming when Olivia learns the bad, bad thing Ned (Wally Kurth) did when she was heading home from Monte Carlo…General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC.
