There are no two ways about it, Carly is our General Hospital leading lady, and it’s clear every day.
Not Monica (Leslie Charleson), the head of the titular hospital and a 40-year veteran. Not Anna (Finola Hughes), an international woman of mystery and an Emmy winner.
Not Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), granddaughter of a core family and mother of practically the entire next generation, including one Quartermaine and one Spencer grandson.
Instead, it’s Carly (Laura Wright). She is a Spencer, kind of. And one of her kids is a Quartermaine, another is a Corinthos, and a third is a Jacks.
Carly is married to Sonny (Maurice Benard), the most noble mobster who ever mobstered, and is best friends with Jason (Steve Burton), the stoic, homicidal saint.
She also… oh, how to put this? Bugs. She bugs a lot. She shrieks. She gives orders. She makes demands. I.e. she bugs.
But do all fans feel this way? Here’s how almost 9,000 voted.
Tipping Point
It was close, but 53% of you squeaked out a win in the “Yes” category. Yes, Carly gets on your nerves. She does it every time she sticks her nose into Jason and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) love lives.
She does it whenever she plays the victim, even in situations she started. And she does it every time she defends Sonny to those who fail who understand how he suffers. Sometimes, Carly is just downright unbearable.
Close Enough
Then again, an almost equal 46% voted “No.” You cheer Carly helping Jason and Sam figure out that they belong together. You understand why she feels victimized by a schemer like Nelle (Chloe Lanier).
And, who else but Carly would understand the pain and anguish Sonny lives with on a daily basis? Not only does Carly NOT get on your nerves, but she’s also your role model!
