What A Shame: General Hospital Is WASTING Lulu and Dante

In what can only be explained as inexplicable, General Hospital (GH) is wasting one of its best couples, Lulu and Dante.

Emme Rylan and Dominic Zamprogna are two of daytime’s finest actors who can handle anything that’s thrown at them. The problem is, they’ve had nothing thrown at them worthy of their considerable talents for over a year.

Dumb and Dumber
The convoluted Charlotte storyline — the kid was created via in-vitro fertilization with Lulu’s egg and Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) sperm and carried by Claudette — and subsequent custody battle was always too ridiculous to care about. Ditto for Lulu’s silly capers with Maxie (Kirsten Storms).

Now Lulu is suddenly a budding journalist, while Dante does little more than log in hours at the PCPD. Talk about a double yawn!

Remember When…
There was a time when Rylan and Zamprogna were both at the center of meaty storylines.

Remember Dante’s action-packed early years in Port Charles and the memorable moment Sonny (Maurice Benard) shot him unaware the cop was his son? Or Lulu’s bout with amnesia after being kidnapped and put on ice in the Cassadine lab?

What about Dante and Lulu learning that Connie wasn’t their daughter and that they’d been bamboozled by their misguided surrogate, Maxie?

And, later, the pair learning that Britt Westbourne’s son, Ben, was actually their biological child? Those were the good old days filled with poignant and powerful plots.

Bring on the Drama

Surely, the show’s writing team can concoct something worthy of Rylan and Zamprogna, again. The duo is way overdue for a dramatic and truly engaging story.

Perhaps Lulu, who’s been institutionalized before, could have a mental health crisis, or suddenly become the obsession of a serial stalker. Maybe a perp from Dante’s police past could be released from prison and set out to exact revenge on his family.

Lulu and Dante deserve to be front and center again, and if the GH scribes have any sense they’ll make it happen soon. The duo have been stuck in stagnant mode for far too long.
