Is General Hospital looking at a huge head writer change? It looks like that just might be on the horizon for the 56-year-old soap that has had a few growing pains over the last few years.
According to Daytime Confidential, word is that Michelle Altman, who has been at the helm of the GH writing staff for the last four years is set to retire this fall.
Altman took over head writing duties from Ron Carlivati in 2015 and was paired with Jean Passanante, who retired herself back in 2017.
Chris Van Etten was promoted to co-head writing status at the time and has been working with Altman ever since. If rumors are true, it seems GH will continue its promotion trend by making breakdown writer, Dan O’Connor, co-head writer with Etten.
GH has taken some criticism of late due to its cult storyline that seems to have eaten Port Charles whole. Sam setting herself up to be sexually assaulted was a sticking point with many fans, thinking the story went too far.
Will a new head writing team offer the drama a different feel and end storylines that just aren’t working? Sometimes fresh blood is exciting and can be just what a soap needs.
