General Hospital decided to play the broad and whimsical card at the latest Nurses Ball, when the ring Finn planned to use for proposing to Anna took a little walk around Port Charles, starting with Robert’s pocket, spending some time at Kelly’s Diner, then Mike, then Yvonne, and finally the performance stage.
Were fans entertained by the wackiness and the break from the non-stop drama, or did it seem out of place? Over 10,000 viewers got the chance to share their feelings with us!
Not the Time, Not the Place
It was needless silliness, 62% of you fume. Here we are talking about AIDS and the lives this disease has taken, including Robin’s (Kimberly McCullough) beloved Stone (Michael Sutton), and there are misunderstanding and slapstick to complement it?
If The Powers That Be want us to take Anna (Finola Hughes) and Finn’s (Michael Easton) romance seriously — and Robert (Tristan Rogers) as a legitimate threat to their love, then they need to take it seriously, too.
The same goes for Mike’s (Max Gail) Alzheimer’s. His is a serious disease, not comic relief. There is nothing adorable about mental illness, and he should be used solely to prop up Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) pain.
Lighten Up
It was fun, 38% of the audience counter. Finn is usually so uptight and serious, and Anna hasn’t had much to smile about lately — would you, if Peter (Wes Ramsey) was your long-lost son? They deserve a break from the heavy drama. And you know Robert was having a blast messing with them.
As for Mike, he’s more than just his disease. He deserves to be treated like a human being — one who might want to propose to his girlfriend.
The Nurses Ball is supposed to be campy — you know, like the Met Gala — and it’s supposed to be fun. This storyline delivered on both fronts!
