General Hospital has adult romance, young adult romance, and even teen romance, but we rarely see childhood romance on the soap. The exception was the Spencer, Emma, Cameron, and Josslyn love quadrangle.
Young Love
When the foursome of Spencer (then Nicolas Bechtel), Emma (then Brooklyn Rae Silzer), Cameron (then Michael Leone), and Josslyn (then Hannah Nordberg) were elementary school age, there was fierce competition for boyfriend/girlfriend status. It was adorable.
Spencer and Cam were both in love with Emma. They each used their charms to win her affection. Although the young Cassadine wined and dined her, she chose Cameron for his caring and sweetness. But it didn’t end there. The precocious Spencer still tried to woo her away from his friend, so he used Josslyn to make her jealous. Joss was happy to oblige because she was in love with Cam. A dinner was arranged for the foursome. The happy couple was quick to see what Spencer was up to, but the surprise was when Joss admitted to her feelings for Cameron.
Things got weird later on when they aged Josslyn, so she was a counselor at Lila’s Kids Summer Camp while Spencer was still a young camper. Emma had already moved to California with her parents.
Fast Forward
Spencer went to boarding school. Along came Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) boyfriend Oscar (ex-Garren Stitt) and her bestie Trina (Tabyana Ali). Cameron (ex-William Lipton) joined and they made a teen foursome, similar to Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), Nikolas (the late Tyler Christopher), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), and Emily (ex-Natalia Livingston) back in the day. Poor Oscar died of cancer, so they added Dev (ex-Ashton Arbab), who was also killed off.
As fast as they made Josslyn older than Spencer (ex-Nicholas Alexander Chavez), he suddenly progressed quickly and they were back on equal footing. Joss’ childhood dreams came true and she and Cam fell in love. She then broke his heart. With Spencer now presumed dead and Cam away at Stanford, Emma (Braedyn Bruner) has returned with a completely different personality.
Those adorable little kids have grown up. Maybe one day, the original four will all be in Port Charles at the same time (Spencer can’t really be dead).
