No one has ever confused General Hospital’s Ava for the straight and narrow type. Even when she’s not wreaking havoc, like when she’s with her kids or just chowing down on some avocado toast at her brother’s place, it’s more a case of her not being deliberately malicious rather than, you know…good.
But Ava has had a hell of a 2018 and 2019. She went from finding out that her daughter, Kiki (Hayley Erin), was sleeping with Ava’s (Maura West) boyfriend, Griffin (Matt Cohen) to seeing Kiki’s murdered and mutilated body.
The only bright spot was Ava’s burgeoning relationship with Dr. Kevin Collins. Finally, a man who didn’t judge Ava, but loved her for who she was — warts and all.
Uh, sorry, spoke too soon. “Kevin” was actually his escaped mental patient brother, Ryan (Jon Lindstrom), the psycho who actually murdered and mutilated Kiki. Ava is not amused.
But, can she channel that lack of amusement into becoming a better person? What almost 21,000 viewers want to see happen:
Go With the Flaws
Ava has been changing, 75% observe, and she should keep heading down that path. But, you know, not all the way. Nobody wants a perfect Ava.
What you’d like is an Ava who kills less, smiles more, has a shot at a good (real) relationship… but still shows a flawed side once in a while. You’d like the opportunity to both love and love to hate her, depending on your mood.
Impossible Dream
Once evil, always evil, 25% of GH fans counter. A person who has done one bad thing can never be redeemed, and it’s insulting that the show would even suggest otherwise.
If that were to happen, Port Charles might be overrun with mobsters, serial killers, and con artists. Can you imagine how unpleasant it would be to tune into every day into such a landscape?
General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
