The General Hospital recap features Spencer Cassadine devastated that he doesn’t have custody of his baby brother.
In this episode, Spencer learned it was Esme who won’t allow him to take her baby home as Esme learned how she ended up wet and freezing on The Haunted Star to ring in the new year. Willow and Liesl met with Terry about the next steps for the bone marrow transplant, and Liesl came to Nina’s defense. Austin met up with his cousin Mason and learned Mason followed him to Spoon Island the night Ava clocked Nikolas over the head. And finally, Gregory refused to tell Alexis why he no longer works at PCU. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into the details.
Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) was stunned when Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) told him that Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) legally blocked him from taking her baby home to Laura’s (Genie Francis) place. The social worker soon arrived and explained that New York law allows mothers to have infants with them in some facilities until they are 18 months old, and Esme wanted Ace with her wherever she ended up. Spencer finally relented and handed the baby back to the nurse as Diane explained he could still fight Esme in court.

Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) decided she would come clean and tell Esme how she ended up in her situation, informing her of the whole sordid tale of being locked in a tower. Liz said she helped Nikolas (Adam Huss) because of her obligation to help the baby and then made it clear she wasn’t going to apologize to her because she felt she was doing the right thing. Esme could barely believe she made the decision to jump off the parapet while pregnant just to escape Nikolas.
Soon Spencer arrived, and Esme let him know that her baby has a name, that name is Ace, and she would not allow him or his father to take the baby, considering that Nikolas locked her in a tower while pregnant.
Later, Liz stood her ground when Victor (Charles Shaughnessy) threatened to tell the police she helped hold Esme hostage for months. Elizabeth basically laughed in his face and told him his threat was moot.
Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and Michael (Chad Duell) arrived at the hospital for a meeting with Terry (Cassandra James), and Liesl (Kathleen Gati) joined them. Terry explained the tests that Liesl would have to undergo to ensure she could donate bone marrow. Once alone, Michael insisted that Liesl tell him and Willow what her ulterior motive was in donating the bone marrow.
Liesl explained that after losing Britt (Kelly Thiebaud), her world perspective changed, and she was happy to welcome a new family member. However, she also wanted to make her niece Nina (Cynthia Watros) happy and asked Willow to imagine a time in the future when Nina is not her enemy. Willow said she could barely think about that and believed that Nina loves having a daughter but doesn’t truly love her.
Aunt Liesl admitted she raised Britt with that attitude, but in the last years of her life, they became close and were even friends. She told Willow that she believed the same could happen for her and Nina. As Michael and Willow prepared to leave the hospital, they ran into Nina, and that will either go really good or really bad.
Ava (Maura West) arrived for drinks at the Metro Court and ended up sitting with Sonny (Maurice Benard), who was very curious as to why Nikolas suddenly disappeared. He even offered to help her out if Nik was threatening her. That’s when Ava confessed that Nikolas didn’t threaten her but instead threatened Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola). That certainly made Sonny sit up and take notice.
Austin (Roger Howarth) was also at the Metro Court meeting with Mason (Nathanyael Grey) and was alarmed to hear that Mason followed him to Spoon Island the night Nikolas was allegedly killed. He made some comments about the nice stables and tack room so that Austin would know he saw everything. Austin still insisted he would not go back to his old way of life, and Mason told him that one day he will make the right decision.
Finally, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) asked Gregory (Gregory Harrison) why he lied to her about working at PCU. She explained that she called the dean to see why teaching and working for her paper would be a conflict of interest and found out he hadn’t taught all semester. Gregory insisted that she couldn’t help him, so the reason did not matter. Alexis tried to get the truth out of him, but Gregory wasn’t talking.
