The General Hospital recap for July 26, 2023, features Curtis pushing Portia away as any self-respecting newly-paralyzed soap character will do.
In this episode, Portia tried to reason with Curtis, but to no avail. At Wyndemere, Ava told Sonny all about how and why she thinks she killed Nikolas. Dante and Sam wondered if Gladys had anything to do with what happened to Sasha. Finally, Joss and Dex had sex and Michael and Willow folded laundry and entertained their children late at night. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into the details.
Curtis (Donnell Turner) couldn’t handle the idea of being a burden on Portia (Brook Kerr) so he begged her to let him go. He even suggested they get an annulment and Portia shut down that idea right away. He just brought up all the past heartache of the last few months but Portia admitted she knew she couldn’t lose him when she saw him laying there in a pool of blood.

Portia did her best to talk some sense into Curtis. She insisted she loved him and didn’t pity him but Curtis didn’t want to hear it. He especially didn’t want to be a burden to Trina (Tabyana Ali) and thought he should stop seeing her. Portia pretty much got sick of hearing him and told him that he’s not the only person who has ever had a spinal cord injury so maybe he should stop his own personal pity party.
After Curtis seemed to have no more ammunition to use, he circled back to losing 20 years with his daughter due to Portia’s lies. Yes, the daughter who he never wants to see again, according to Curtis from five minutes ago.
Sonny (Maurice Benard) was shocked to learn that Ava (Maura West) killed Nikolas and he didn’t just disappear. She also had to explain that his body vanished and Mason knows where it is, so he is blackmailing her to get info on Sonny. Ava went on to tell Sonny the whole sordid tale, including the fact that Nikolas threatened Avery (Ava and Grace Scarola). That was enough for Sonny to be on Ava’s side right away.
As Ava went on with the story, Sonny couldn’t help but be amused considering he never really liked Nikolas anyway. When Ava finished relaying everything Sonny needed to know, he promised to help get her out of this blackmail mess.
Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) was thrilled to be folding baby laundry because it was a small thing she thought she’d never have a chance to do again for her husband and kids. She even credited Michael (Chad Duell) for giving her the will to live during her toughest hours. She even promised to be there for Wiley’s sporting event. When the baby cried, it was the cap on a perfect night for Willow.
Dex (Evan Hofer) was happy and surprised to find Joss (Eden McCoy) at his front door. She hadn’t heard from him in 32 hours and was suspicious. For some reason, Dex thought that Joss would ask if he killed the man, but that wasn’t even a thought in Joss’s mind. She had been through enough of the mob life with her mother so Dex’s discovery of a dead body was par for the course. However, she was stunned to learn that Sonny had Dex call the cops. When the conversation ended, they shared some alone time.
Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) conferred on the situation with Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and Cody (Josh Kelly). Neither Sam nor Dante thought Sasha’s unraveling made sense and Sam was sure Gladys (Bonnie Burroughs) had something to do with it. Sam even brought up Gladys selling Brando’s (Johnny Wactor) garage to Selina (Lydia Look). She was starting to put the pieces together but still didn’t realize Sasha had been drugged.
Later, when Sam and Dante tried to enjoy some close moments, Cody interrupted them and promptly passed out. He’d checked himself out of the hospital and was still in pretty bad shape. When he came to, he told Sam and Dante that he just wanted to help Sasha.
