The General Hospital recap for August 31, 2023, features the return of Nikolas Cassadine just in time to move this story along.
General Hospital Recap Highlights
In this episode, Ava fretted about Nikolas’s dead body while his live body was just chilling with a beer at Austin’s place. Alexis and Spencer also discussed Nikolas and his disappearance. Brook Lynn and Tracy squabbled but BLQ was later surprised by Chase’s proposition. Lucy fretted to Martin about her financial situation until Ava gave her a call about some real estate. Josslyn was not happy when Dex had to cancel their date. And finally, Diane thought she had a way of getting Drew out of jail. Now, let’s dig a little deeper into the details.
General Hospital: We Now Know Where Nikolas Has Been
Ava (Maura West) sipped on a martini while remembering the nightmare night when she believed she killed Nikolas (Adam Huss). Austin (Roger Howarth) showed up at the front door to interrupt her thoughts but Ava was not happy to see him. She was even less happy to learn that their problems with Austin’s (Roger Howarth) boss were not over. Austin asked Ava to trust him for just a little while longer but Ava wasn’t having it. She wanted to dispose of Nikolas’s alleged dead body her way and then find a new place to live because Wyndemere was giving her the creeps.

Before they could finish their talk, Mason (Nathanyael Grey) stopped by for a visit so Ava could demand Nikolas’s body ASAP. Mason informed her there would be a little delay, but a whole operation would be going down that night and it should resolve things. When Mason returned home, he asked his guest how he was feeling and a beer-chugging Nikolas smiled and said he was just fine.
Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) caught up at the Metro Court pool. She wanted to check on him and give him a report on Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl). Spencer was surprised to hear she was good at her job. The subject soon turned to Ace and how he managed to make people happy despite the facts of his conception. Spencer couldn’t even imagine life without Ace in it.
And, while Spencer could never forget the things Esme did, he felt she was a good mother to his baby brother. This made him determined to find a way to continue co-existing with Esme in order to give Ace a happy childhood. Alexis thought that made him sound like his father.
Trina (Tabyana Ali) was the next topic of conversation. He was grateful to her for being supportive of him taking care of Ace, even if that meant he had to be around Esme. He was determined to do better than his father, so Alexis pointed out that he may talk so negatively about his dad because he loved and missed him. Spencer said he didn’t want to love Nikolas because he felt their once-good relationship was just an illusion. Alexis assured him it was not.
General Hospital Recap: Can Spoon Island Save Lucy?
Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) was ready to lose her mind after her day in court, but at least Leo (Easton Rocket Sweda) was there to give her a hug and try to cheer her up. BLQ tried to explain to Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) how she betrayed her friends, but Tracy (Jane Elliot) beat her to it.
Olivia listened as Brook Lynn and Tracy hurled accusations at one another. Tracy said suing Deception was just business, but Brook Lynn wasn’t buying it. She now sees her grandmother as cold and calculating and wishes she had never tried taking her side in family squabbles. When Brook Lynn ran from the room, Olivia reminded Tracy that Brook Lynn looked up to her, so her feelings of betrayal were understandable.
Chase (Josh Swickard) met up with Brook Lynn outside Kelly’s. She didn’t want to go back to the Q house after what happened. So, Chase asked Brook Lynn to move in with him.
Lucy (Lynn Herring) wasn’t doing much better than Brook Lynn and contemplated throwing herself into the pool until Marty (Michael E. Knight) stopped her. She told him she felt completely betrayed so he tried to make her feel better. Too bad it didn’t work. In fact, Lucy wanted to know if Marty had been acting strange because he stole the Deceptor idea from Tracy. Marty denied the accusations and Lucy decided to believe him. She finally confessed that she thought Brook Lynn was the one who betrayed her and Deception.
Lucy wondered if she’d have to fall back on her real estate license just as Ava called to tell her she wanted to sell Wyndemere and Spoon Island.
GH Recap: Josslyn Has Mob Issues
Dex (Evan Hofer) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) met up outside Kelly’s, but Joss’s good mood was quickly ruined when Dex had to cancel their concert plans so he could do a job for Sonny (Maurice Benard). They no longer had regular alone time, and she insisted he turn down Sonny’s assignment. Dex promised her they would be together soon, but he had to do whatever Sonny told him to do. She wished her mother had never destroyed that flash drive because it was their one chance to get Sonny behind bars, and now it’s gone.
Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) and Robert (Tristan Rogers) spent some more time sparring and flirting. Robert bought a new car and wanted to take her for a spin. She had to turn him down so she could work on finding a way to get Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) sentence reduced.
Robert even offered to help until he learned that Carly (Laura Wright) wanted Diane to prove the judge was biased against white-collar criminals. He didn’t think she’d have much luck but mentioned that the WSB was happy to have Drew behind bars after he, Laura (Genie Francis), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart), and Curtis (Donnell Turner) went rogue in Greenland. She wondered if there could be a connection between the WSB and the judge.
