The GH recap for Friday, December 30, 2022, features Esme Prince ending the year on a wing and a prayer.
In this episode, Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) set her tower prison ablaze and then gave Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) even more of a shock. Over at The Haunted Star, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) told Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) her latest secret, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) enjoyed their first ‘date’ on deck while The Hook lurked. Inside, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) celebrated her life and then made a quiet retreat. Finally, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) whined about Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and then prepared for a party with no protection.
Esme promised Ace that Mommy would be there for him or her in case her little fire got out of hand. After she lit the match, she regretted her plans until Nikolas arrived with a fire extinguisher. She quickly ran out of the room and onto the parapet. After Nikolas put out the fire, he found Esme out there and begged her not to jump. It was too late. She decided to do it anyway, saying she survived it before and launched herself backward as Nikolas looked on in shock.

To think, he had just promised Laura Collins (Genie Francis) he would consider a New Year’s resolution to be a better person and get a fresh start. Looks like 2023 has other plans for him as his problems just deepen.
Over on The Haunted Star, Trina and Spencer grew closer on deck with The Hook lurking nearby. Thankfully, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) called them in for cake before The Hook could kill them.
Elizabeth and Finn also spent some time on deck after he questioned her drinking. Elizabeth told him there was no baby because she had a miscarriage and then made him promise to still never mention this to her boys.
Inside, Britt blew out her birthday candles the best she could and was then moved to tears by a slideshow of her life that Austin Gatlin-Holt put together. He told her she could still stay in town, but when the clock struck midnight and the new year began, Britt quietly slipped away and the only person to notice she was missing was her mother, Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati).
Meanwhile, Josslyn spent her evening at Kelly’s. She wanted to talk to Cameron Webber (William Lipton) but he wasn’t there so Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) and Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) invited her to sit down for dessert and she spent her time lamenting how terrible Sonny is. She then decided to head to Britt’s party late and told the guard Sonny gave her that he could let her be because Sonny would be there. As she stood on the pier ready to board the boat, The Hook came out of nowhere ready to attack.
Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) spent a quiet New Year’s Eve at home and Willow wondered if she’d even be around to ring in 2024 with Michael and their two children, something she didn’t think about when she decided to delay cancer treatment.
Willow was then surprised when Michael first assured her that she would and then proposed to her using Lila Quartermaine’s (Anna Lee) ring, the same one he used when they got married the first time. A touched Willow accepted Michael’s proposal.
