In the October 19 episode of General Hospital, Anna checked in on Sonny, and their conversation led to a lot of vulnerability between them. Anna gave Sonny a glimmer of hope he desperately needed, as his loved ones doubted his word and intentions.

Key Takeaways

  • Anna was a shoulder for Sonny to lean on.
  • Sonny got brutally honest about his situation.
  • Anna’s story gave him a glimmer of hope.

The Gio and Emma Factor

When Anna (Finola Hughes) stopped by Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) house, he was surprised to see her. It ended up being a very pleasant surprise and one he desperately needed.

They talked about Emma (Braedyn Bruner) and Gio (Giovanni Mazza) moving in together. Sonny relayed that Emma gave him an earful as she helped Gio move out.

Anna shared that Gio wanted to be a good friend to Trina (Tabyana Ali) and that he wasn’t convinced of Sonny’s innocence. Sonny admitted it was hard that certain people doubted him, but he could understand why.

Find a New Common Ground

After being kidnapped and then held in the institution in France, Anna expressed that she knew what it was like when no one believed you. Anna said she understood better than anyone how important it was to be believed by your loved ones.

They discussed her situation at length as Anna admitted she always knew she was right, but had no proof, which was what Sonny didn’t have either. Anna showed her sympathy for Sonny and the fact that his loved ones didn’t believe him.

Sonny got emotional and shared that seeing Anna now gave him hope. The former mob boss was impressed by Anna becasue of how she turned her dire situation around. Sonny teared up as he said that Anna had given him hope that his truth would be heard one day, too.

Getting Vulnerable and Honest With Someone Who Understands

Watching Anna be on the other side of her ordeal, not done with it but on the other side, was just what Sonny needed as his loved ones turned on him. Sonny has been dealt a lot of blows recently, with being blamed for the Sidwell (Carlo Rotta) and Curtis (Donnell Turner) attack and losing the piers to Josslyn (Eden McCoy), who’s determined to take him down.

Anna not only gave Sonny hope, but she also allowed him to be vulnerable in a way that he isn’t often with people. Sonny can be like that with Carly (Laura Wright), Jason (Steve Burton), and maybe Ric (Rick Hearst), but that’s pretty much it.

Sonny getting validation from Anna spoke volumes for him. It’s not just about Anna relating to him because of her situation. Anna hasn’t always been on Team Sonny, so to be able to open up to her and get hope from her lit a spark in Sonny that wasn’t about anger or payback.

The fact is, Sonny is hurt. Anna understood that and gave him permission to feel it in a way no one else has, especially since most of his loved ones are calling him a liar. It was nice to see Sonny and Anna share that emotional moment.
