Some soap characters are lucky to be associated with one love song. Former General Hospital star Emma Samms can proudly lay claim to having a connection too, and both were performed by the same duo.
Patti Austin and the late James Ingram, who passed away recently at the age of 66, first sang Baby Come To Me, a tune that reached #73 initially on the Billboard charts. After the song was incorporated as Luke (Anthony Geary) and Holly’s (Emma Samms) love theme, the tune skyrocketed to No. 1!
The enticing and romantic duet seduced GH fans into embracing Luke Spencer and Holly Sutton’s romance.
Over time, fate torn them apart when Luke was presumed dead in an avalanche and Holly moved onto a marriage with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers).
Luke, of course, came back but Holly opted to stay with Robert. It all worked out as Laura (Genie Francis) also came back to life and reunited with Luke.
The end of Luke and Holly meant less airtime for their song, but GH producers heard another Austin/Ingram tune, How Do You Keep The Music Playing, and felt it was perfect for Robert and Holly.
Samms recently tweeted photos of Ingram, Geary, late legendary GH executive producer Gloria Monty, and herself in the 1980s when he visited the GH studio after Baby Come To Me went to No. 1.
“He was really a lovely man,” Samms said.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
So very sad to hear the news about James Ingram.
Here he was visiting the set of General Hospital to celebrate his song “Baby Come to Me” (Luke & Holly’s theme song) reaching No1.
