Are ‘General Hospital’ (GH) Fans Ready to Take a Bet on Chet?

We all know General Hospital’s (GH) Amy has a brother and that is why she’s been doing this whole Man Landers bit. His name is Chet and Chet is a double-leg amputee (as is Chris Van Etten, the Marine veteran who portrays him).

Chet is also addicted to opiate pain-killers and almost overdosed. Amy (Risa Dorken) begged Nathan (Ryan Pavey) – who has already done Amy a whole bunch of favors – not to arrest her brother for abusing the drug.

And the ‘No’s’ have it, as 51% of the you point out that Chet is a tertiary character to a secondary character who is connected to Nathan, who is a main character married to Maxie (Kirsten Storms), whom you watched grow up in Port Charles. That’s a pretty tenuous connection to the main action.

Why should someone you’ve never seen before suddenly get a front burner story when fan favorites like Monica (Leslie Charleson), Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) and the talked about but never quite seen Lucas (Ryan Carnes) and Brad (Parry Shen) languish off-screen?

Amy’s chatter was bad enough. Now you have to listen to her chatter about someone who doesn’t interest you?

Opiate addiction is a serious social issue, counter 49% of you, and you like it when soaps tackle real-world problems.

Chet is exactly the kind of character who might accidentally fall prey to addiction, and he’s the perfect face to drive home the idea that addicts shouldn’t be jailed, they should be treated.

Sure, Amy has been pretty lightweight up to this point, but this is just the kind of story that might show there’s more depth to her than gossip and Man Landers. Besides, how awesome is it to get the perspective of someone who actually is differently-abled, rather than just playing someone on TV?
