Oscar Rules The World On General Hospital… Or At Least He Thinks So

Ever since Oscar found out he has cancer on General Hospital, he has become a one-man wrecking ball, rolling over everyone in his life… not that we blame him. Or do we?

It was a horrible blow; no one is denying it. Finding out that your mother kept your diagnosis from you for two years… well, it’s no wonder Oscar (Garren Stitt) is having trust issues. Perhaps feeling like he has no control of his life has made him want to control what he can with as tight a grip as possible isn’t so shocking.

After all, he doesn’t have the clarity or the years of experience to realize that what his mother Kim (Tamara Braun) is saying about needing a solid support system is actually very true… and that pushing away everyone who loves him might not be the best tact to take.

But is it so surprising that Oscar isn’t thinking straight? It’s a lot for an adult to handle — and Oscar is far from that despite managing to keep a girlfriend for an entire year.

While it’s admirable that he wants to make things as easy as he can on Josslyn (Eden McCoy), his convoluted thinking that making her hate him now will mean she’ll miss him less when he’s dead is misguided at best and cruel at worst.

Sadly, normally level-headed Oscar seems to be all about sharing the pain he’s feeling. He’s lashed out at his mother, making her feel horrible (OK, some of it she deserves).

He’s got his dad Drew (Billy Miller) hurting because he can’t help him and instead he’s confiding in Uncle Jason (Steve Burton) — which is a real sore point for Dad.

And then there’s poor Joss who just keeps stepping in it (talking about all things precious Morgan will never experience didn’t help matters) as she tries to get Oscar to open up about why he dumped her.

While we applaud Kim for finally telling Oscar that in the end, it’s his parents’ decision about how to deal with his illness, it’s hard not to scream at the TV (okay, so we do, don’t judge) at Oscar to stop being unfair to those around him — Cam (Will Lipton), Joss, and his parents.

He needs to fight for his life and stop acting as if he’s already dead. We know Oscar will get there eventually. Here’s hoping it’s sooner rather than later.

General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
