We’ve known since last year that Oscar would probably end up dying on General Hospital, so when the moment finally came (complete with fake-out dream reprieve), it was still hard to believe as his spirit joined Lila and Edward for that last exit.
And while it was beautiful to think that Lila and Edward would return from the great beyond just to usher their great-grandson, whom they knew nothing about (heck, they didn’t even know about his father, Drew), into heaven, were they really the best choices to do this?
Both were last played by actors who have passed away in real life — John Ingle and Anna Lee, the latter of which lost the use of her legs in the final years of her life (so even if she was alive, she wouldn’t have been able to play those scenes).
While we applaud the scenario in theory, there were other past Q’s to choose from who may have felt a bit more right — and could have been played by the last actors to portray them. Why couldn’t Drew’s father, Alan (Stuart Damon) — and Oscar’s grandfather — have been there to welcome him?
Also, what about his aunt Emily and asking Natalia Livingston to return to the role? Emily was adopted by Monica (Leslie Charleson) and Alan and beloved by all of the Quartermaines (and fans). She could have related to dying young, and we could have gotten an interesting and meaningful conversation between the two.
Either way, the end result is the same as Oscar (Garren Stitt) has succumbed to his illness and now his family, friends, and the rest of Port Charles have to figure out what life will look like without this young man in their midst.
