Each year, soap opera fans and devotees of daytime programming look forward to the Daytime Emmys! Now there’s news as to when next year’s ceremonies will take place.
The National Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards 2020 will occur over three nights — Friday, June 12th, 2020, Saturday, June 13th, 2020, and Sunday, June 14th, 2020. In the past, the awards have occurred over two nights (Friday and Sunday).
“We are thrilled to add a third night of celebrating the diversity and talents of our Daytime community,” says NATAS President/CEO, Adam Sharp. “We have seen how the Television Academy’s expansion of the Primetime Creative Arts ceremonies has made room for more honorees to have their well-earned moment in the sun, and we hope to replicate their success.”
The ceremonies will take place in Pasadena, California. More details, including which categories will be presented on which evenings, will be announced at a future date.
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is a professional, non-profit service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Award.
The Daytime Emmys were first held in 1973 in New York City. The ceremony was hosted by Barbara Walters and Peter Marshall (The Hollywood Squares). NBC serial The Doctors won the award for Outstanding Drama Series.
Macdonald Carey (Tom, Days of our Lives) won for Outstanding Lead Actor. Elizabeth Hubbard (Althea, The Doctors) won Outstanding Lead Actress. Wes Kenney won for Best Individual Director for a Daytime Drama for directing DAYS. Henry Slesar took home the statuette for Best Writing for a Drama Series for weaving tales for The Edge of Night.
In 2006, the Daytime Emmys moved to Los Angeles and the Kodak Theater in Hollywood after years of being broadcast from various places in New York City, including Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden.
