On General Hospital, someone is always getting bad news about life or death matters. It’s a hospital, after all. And a town with a very active mob.
A terminal diagnosis is always tragic, but especially when it threatens the life of a teen who has barely started living.
For years, Kim (Tamra Braun) has been keeping a secret from Oscar (Garren Stitt) – beyond Drew (Billy Miller) being his father. Oscar is dying from a brain tumor. Kim didn’t want him living under a dark cloud. (She also, it would seem, didn’t want him getting treatment. Nice going there, Dr. Mom!)
Well, now Oscar knows, and now he’s the one who doesn’t want to participate in a drug trial that might cure him. He’s even willing to sue to divorce his parents to do it. Has Oscar made the right choice? What over 8,000 armchair physicians had to say.
That Boy Is Wrong
Choose life, Oscar, 95% of you urge. You’re young, you have so much to live for! Like… uh… Joss (Eden McCoy). And your new dad. Not to mention all that potential Quartermaine money….
But, most importantly, dude, even if the drug trials can’t help you, maybe they’ll be able to help someone just like you down the line. Think about making a difference. Think about making your life mean something. Think about somebody other than yourself, for a change.

That Boy Is Right
A tiny 5% support Oscar’s right to die… and not to spend the last precious moments of his life suffering. He’s a kid. Kids are allowed to be selfish. Especially terminally ill ones.
It’s his life and he should get to spend it any way he wants. The decision is not up to Oscar’s parents. Sure he seems mopey and selfish right now, but faced with the same diagnosis, would you be any better?
