COVID-19 has been ravaging through nursing homes across the country claiming lives and devastating families and now former General Hospital and One Life to Live star Kristen Alderson fears for her grandmother.
Kristen Alderson Worries For Her Family
The actress, who lives in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, a state with an uptick in cases due to the Pittsburgh area, now wonders if she will ever see her grandmother again after an employee in her nursing home has tested positive. Pennsylvania nursing homes have been particularly hard hit by this virus.
“Real quick, if you work at a nursing home and are going places without a mask and being careless… that’s my grandmother you just exposed to the virus that you caught,” Alderson tweeted. “You might be fine but we might never see her again. This isn’t just my story, it’s hundreds of thousands. HAVE A SOUL.”
That is indeed realities people are dealing with across the country as they are unable to say goodbye to older relatives in nursing homes, and even often younger relatives who are admitted to hospitals and can’t have visitors, then die alone.
Alderson, who grew up on both One Life to Live and General Hospital as Starr Manning and then Kiki Jerome, soon clarified her tweet and explained what is happening with her own grandmother. “Sorry for the rant, just found out that two nurses at my granny’s nursing home got COVID this week…came to work… and exposed her and others. So now she’s in isolation even more so than she usually is. We can only pray now that she didn’t catch it.”
Most nursing home residents have not been able to have visitors for months to try and keep them safe from this deadly virus spreading out of control in the U.S. right now after being controlled in other countries a much lower death rate than here.
Alderson has a good point with her plea for people to wear masks. Currently, The University of Washington’s COVID model that has been used by the White House now expects more than 200,000 American deaths from this virus by November but also admits that number can be 45,000 fewer if 95% of Americans would just wear masks. The problem is many Americans refuse to wear them although science shows how many lives could be saved if we do this simple thing.
Soap Hub sends best wishes to Kristen Alderson and her family and hopes her grandmother remains healthy and the family can be reunited again soon. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
