Dominic Zamprogna, Daytime Emmy-nominated for his time on General Hospital playing Sonny’s son Dante Falconeri, paid tribute to his friend, Broadway actor Nick Cordero, who passed away after a more than three-month fight with the coronavirus.

Dominic Zamprogna: Missing Broadway Star Nick Cordero

“Nick was an outstanding human being,” Zamprogna posted on Twitter. “There isn’t anyone who got to meet him that would say otherwise. He took up doorways. He had Immeasurable amounts of talent and grace. And he had a wife and son, a mother, sister and brother. Keep singing for them, and Rest In Peace my pal.”

Cordero, who was Tony-nominated for his role in Bullets Over Broadway, also starred in Waitress and A Bronx Tale: The Musical on Broadway. The Broadway star’s battle with COVID-19 has been well documented over the past few months by his wife, former Broadway dancer Amanda Kloots, who has taken to social media to update his fans along the way.

The 41-year-old Cordero was diagnosed with coronavirus in late March and remained in the hospital, slipping into a coma, losing more than 60 pounds, and having his leg amputated due to complications.

Zamprogna and Cordero grew up in the Canadian town of Hamilton and Zamprogna’s parents were teachers and mentors to the rising musical theatre lover.

“I had teachers in my home town, David Dayler and Lou and Pauline Zamprogna, who gave me a lot of opportunity to be onstage growing up,” Cordero said in a Playbill interview back in 2014. “They gave me room to fail, for which I’m grateful.”

Pauline Zamprogna, who passed away in 2013, was one of Canada’s foremost ballet teachers.

Cordero attended Ryerson University in Toronto for a couple of years, but quit to sing in a rock band called Lovemethod. His big break came in 2009 in the Off-Broadway production of the cult movie, The Toxic Avenger. He followed that up as Dennis in Rock of Ages.

His most recent theater credit was as dentist Orin Scrivello in the Kennedy Center’s production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Nick Cordero and Kloots share a 1-year-old son Elvis. The couple had recently moved to Los Angeles and were staying in the guest home of actor Zach Braff when his illness was diagnosed. Braff often talked of his friend in his Scrubs podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends, calling Cordero “the kindest human being” he’s ever met. Soap Hub sends condolences to Cordero’s family.
