General Hospital will once again lose Jason Morgan in a few weeks. There is one way the ABC soap could write him out that would really make fans happy, but unfortunately, the odds are against this exit strategy happening.

Key Takeaways

  • Steve Burton is taking a break from GH.
  • Jason should leave Port Charles to spend time with Jake.
  • Here’s why a Jake and Jason reunion won’t happen.

This Would Make Jason’s Exit Better

Steve Burton has revealed he’s temporarily leaving GH to spend time with his family. Unlike when Burton left the ABC soap previously, the actor has confirmed he will return this summer.

That means there is no need for another Jason-is-dead storyline. However, the writers do need a good reason for Jason to be out of town for months, especially since he is Danny’s (Asher Antonyzyn) only living parent.

One fan on X came up with a great exit storyline for Jason that would lead to a return that fans desperately want to happen.

“Instead of writing, some unnecessary reason for Jason to be missing for a few months why not just have Jason go visit Jake in Spain and then when Jason returns in the summer, he can bring Jake back with him It’s a win-win,” wrote the fan.

Listen, we are so on board with this being how Jason exits, because fans have been wanting Jason and Jake (Hudson West) to have a father-and-son relationship. It made sense for them not to have a relationship when Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) was keeping Jake’s paternity a secret.

However, the truth has been out for years, but Jason basically has a nonexistent relationship with Jake. When Jason returned from the dead, this last time, the focus was on rebuilding Jason’s relationship with Danny, with Jake coming off like an afterthought.

Unfortunately, this is precisely why this exit storyline will never happen. The writers rarely even acknowledge that Jason has another son. Therefore, Jason leaving Danny behind so that he can bond with Jake will never come to light.

It’s sad, too, because the show has missed such an excellent opportunity to lean into the estranged relationship between Jason and Jake. Jason is footing the bill for Jake’s school, and that’s pretty much the last time we heard Jason mention him.

One way or another, Jason will be leaving Port Charles. Have you thought about how the character should be written out? Let us know in the comments section below.
