Most soap characters are pretty awful parents, and General Hospital is no exception. Who has time to nurture, much less fill out permission slips, check homework, and distribute multivitamins when you’re falling in and out of love, on and off balconies, and/or saving the world? But the parenting in Port Charles has been particularly wretched lately, and we’ve got the top (bottom?) five dads to prove it!
We’ve got a two veteran tie in this category. There’s Robert (Tristan Rogers) who just found out he had a daughter, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) — but chose to jet off with her mom, Holly (Emma Samms), instead. Sasha is a magnet for tragedy. She’s going to need support sooner or later. Shame Dear Old Dad won’t be there.
And then there’s Sonny (Maurice Benard). It’s been decades since he shot one son in the chest, got another shot in the head, or shot his own wife while she was in labor with yet another of his children. Most recently, he let one of his many Baby Mamas go to prison for a murder Sonny knows (thinks) he committed. What a prince!

Sam (Kelly Monaco) must have thought Drew (Cameron Mathison) was the best of her bad choices when she left custody of Danny and Scout to her ex-husband. Sure, Drew was a loving father to Scout and a great uncle/stepdad to Danny when they were together.
But we can’t get over the fact that Drew always puts Carly (Laura Wright) ahead of his own child. We don’t expect that to change once he’s their only guardian.
Yes, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) had a terrible role model in his own dad, Luke (Anthony Geary). But Lucky was so much better than Luke in so many areas. Why not this one? We still have a hard time believing he’d abandon not just his biological son, Aiden, but Jake and Cam, the boys he considered his own, too, because he doesn’t feel up to being a parent. He was a great one all the years he was in Port Charles. That’s just an excuse and an unbelievable one at that.
Jason (Steve Burton). Jason doesn’t care about Jake. Jason doesn’t care about Danny. Sure, they had a nice bonding moment at Sam’s funeral. But did you see Jason’s look of… something (his expressions have always been hard to read) when Danny asked if he could come live with his dad? Jason was a terrific fake dad to Baby Michael (Chad Duell — who is leaving GH). His own kids can just keep fending for themselves.
