Who else is a terrible, disloyal child?

Trina is very angry with her mother on General Hospital these days. But why should that prompt her to refer to Taggart as “the man I used to call my father?” What did Taggart do to her? Then again, GH characters are kind of famous for picking up and dropping parents at the drop of a hat. Here are some of the worst offenders.

Key Takeaways

  • Laura’s relationship with Lesley and Rick.
  • Michael’s relationship with AJ… and Sonny.
  • Charlotte’s many, many parents.

Classic Edition

Laura (Genie Francis) was switched at birth and, for the first 12 years of her life, grew up thinking her name was Laura Vining and her parents were Jason and Barbara Vining. But then she met her biological mother, Lesley (Denise Alexander), and opted to live with her, switching to calling her mom without much effort. (OK, there was some effort, and Laura initially rejected Lesley and wanted to return to Barbara. But then she got over it and never mentioned her original mom again.)

Lesley was married to Rick (Chris Robinson), so he became Laura’s dad. She even called herself Laura Webber. Then time passed, and Rick returned to the canvas. Only now, instead of being the stepfather Laura adored, he was the horrible man who was cheating on Lesley when Laura walked in on him and killed the other woman, prompting Rick and Scotty (Kin Shriner) to get rid of the body and encourage Laura’s amnesia. Oh, and Laura was no longer calling Rick dad. Because why would she ever have considered a horrible man like that her dad?

Back and Forth

Carly (Laura Wright) was the one who encouraged Michael (Rory Gibson) to think of Sonny (Maurice Benard) as his father instead of AJ (Sean Kanan). But then Michael got mad at Sonny and reconnected with his Quartermaine family.

However, Michael decided he loved Sonny again and went back to calling him dad… while keeping the Quartermaines dangling. After all, why turn down all their lovely money? Michael is a man of strong convictions!

Four Across

And then there’s Charlotte (Bluesy Burke). She was created by Helena (Constance Towers) from Lulu’s (Alexa Havins) and Stavros’ (Robert Kelker-Kelly) sperm. The embryo was implanted in Claudette (Bree Williamson), who told a pre-teen Charlotte that Nathan (Ryan Paevey) was her father.

Then Claudette faked her death and disappeared. And Charlotte learned that Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) was her father. She loves him like crazy now. And then Charlotte learned that Lulu was her mother. She hated her like crazy. She eventually got over it.

End Game

That still leaves Trina (Tabyana Ali), who is now all about Curtis (Donnell Turner) being her dad, ignoring Taggart (Real Andrews), who raised and loved her for most of her life. Maybe it’s something in the Port Charles water.
